We are looking for volunteers! Join the Beta Catchers beta-test

Join our Beta-test (no pun intended) by playing our new citizen science game to speed up Alzheimer's research. The first 100 participants to complete the study and answer a short survey will receive an Amazon gift card.

HCI Convergence: So What Happened??

As we reflect on the winter festivities here in Ithaca, we think of the closeness of family and friends this time of year. The warmth of these connections reminds us of the camaraderie within our Human Computation Institute (HCI) team when we traveled to Denmark early last year. We are

Back to the lab: Daniel Rivera describes to us the behind the scenes of the PSGL-1 dataset at the Schaffer-Nishimura Lab 🔬

Daniel Rivera, one of the researchers, took the time to explain to us more about what this particular research question is all about and how he captured the videos analyzed in Stall Catchers.

A (new) star is born: Pietro's rap for AI ethics

In March Pietro's career took a 180° turn when he released his first hit "Rapping for AI ethics". What started as an academic presentation became an unexpected milestone in the history of American music. Here, Pietro gives us his first interview as a star.

About

Caprarom visited us in the lab… and so can you!

Ok, so we can't invite all 40,000 catchers to meet us at the office, but we wanted to show you around. Mike Capraro, whom you may know from the Stall Catchers leaderboard as Caprarom, visited us to celebrate our fifth anniversary and joined us on a tour

Meet the bot authors - Kirill Brodt and his bot “Clsc2”!

Onto the next! We will be interviewing another one of our “Bot Makers” in this second installment of our three part series. In the last blog post, we had the opportunity to speak with Roman Solovyev about his bot ZFTurbo. ZFTurbo was able to help us out quite a lot

Meet the bot authors - Laura Onac and her bot “GAIA”

And GAIA makes three! Some of you might remember Laura Onac’s bot, GAIA, as she was the first bot EVER to play Stall Catchers. Wow, time flies! GAIA was able to compete once again in our most recent Bot Study. Since this Bot Study was a chance to test

Microsoft’s annual Giving Campaign - a time of year when volunteering blooms

Last month alone, the Stall Catchers community grew by 1,167 new catchers!  And there’s a great reason for this - October is Microsoft’s annual Giving Campaign, during which employees rally to volunteer their time for a cause that feels important to them.  This year, Microsoft invited Stall

Meet the bot authors - Roman Solovyev and his bot “ZFTurbo”!

The Bot study in Stall Catchers just ended.  We have already discussed bots so much. Players constantly saw bot names on the leaderboard. And the bots analyzed so much data. And still - even bots themselves were just machines, they were all created by great and talented people! To get

Bots, that are going to play Stall Catchers along humans

Just as the GAIA catcher bot participated in the 2021 International Catchathon, for the next dataset, GAIA will be accompanied by two new catcher bots to help do the analysis, so we can get a better idea of how well bots can work with humans and other bots to analyze

Stall Catchers turns 5!

Though the public launch of Stall Catchers on October 1, 2016 may seem like the beginning of the project to many catchers, for me it was also the end of a long road toward developing the concept and finding a suitable funding partner.  This process began on February 11, 2014
